  10. games are you? Your pies are always
  11.  
  12. filled to overflowing during TRIVIAL
  13.  
  14. PURSUIT? You always have the answers
  15.  
  16. ---but what about the questions?
  17.  
  18. QUICK---
  19.  
  20.   The category is "SIT-COMS", and a
  21.  
  22. correct responce is worth $300.
  23.  
  24. The answer is ---- 'The character
  25.  
  26. played by Gleason in the
  27.  
  28. HONEYMOONERS'. But what is the
  29.  
  30. question?
  31.  
  32.   If you answered, 'Who is Ralph
  33.  
  34. Kramden', CATEGORY SHOWDOWN might
  35.  
  36. become your favorite trivia game. If
  37.  
  38. you haven't guessed yet, CATEGORY
  39.  
  40. SHOWDOWN is like a home computer
  41.  
  42. version of JEPORADY(tm), and has over
  43.  
  44. 60 categories of mind teasing
  45.  
  46. questions.
  47.  
  48.   When the game starts, you will be
  49.  
  50. asked for the name of Player 1 and
  51.  
  52. Player 2.  If, for some reason you
  53.  
  54. want to play by yourself, just press
  55.  
  56. RETURN for the name of Player 2.
  57.  
  58. Next, the computer will ask you for
  59.  
  60. a response key for both Player 1 and
  61.  
  62. 2.  The response key is that key on
  63.  
  64. the keyboard that you will press when
  65.  
  66. you think you know the answer to a
  67.  
  68. question.  If you can press your key
  69.  
  70. before your opponent presses his when
  71.  
  72. the computer asks the question, you
  73.  
  74. get first crack at answering it.
  75.  
  76.   After the first few formalities, the
  77.  
  78. computer will select 6 categories from
  79.  
  80. which to choose.  The complete names
  81.  
  82. of the categories will be listed and
  83.  
  84. the computer will tell who has control
  85.  
  86. of the board.
  87.  
  88.   After this, a screen with 6 columns
  89.  
  90. and 5 rows will be displayed. This is
  91.  
  92. the actual screen from which you will
  93.  
  94. pick a category and a money amount.
  95.  
  96. Towards the bottom of the screen you
  97.  
  98. will see a statement telling you who
  99.  
  100. gets to choose a question.  The
  101.  
  102. columns are numbered and you simply
  103.  
  104. enter the number of the category you
  105.  
  106. want.  Next you enter the money amount
  107.  
  108. you want to play for.  You cannot
  109.  
  110. choose a category that has no
  111.  
  112. remaining questions.
  113.  
  114.   During the game, entering a "c"
  115.  
  116. when choosing a category displays a
  117.  
  118. list of the current categories and
  119.  
  120. scores. Entering a "q" at this point
  121.  
  122. quits the game. You receive the
  123.  
  124. option of beginning a new game or
  125.  
  126. game or returning to LOADSTAR.
  127.  
  128.   After you have chosen a category and
  129.  
  130. a money amount, the computer will
  131.  
  132. display your question.  At this point,
  133.  
  134. whoever thinks he knows the correct
  135.  
  136. answer should press his response key.
  137.  
  138. If no one presses a key after a
  139.  
  140. certain amount of time, a timer will
  141.  
  142. sound, the answer will be shown and
  143.  
  144. you will return to the main game
  145.  
  146. board to try another question.
  147.  
  148.   If someone presses a response key,
  149.  
  150. that player will be asked to answer
  151.  
  152. the question.  If it is answered
  153.  
  154. correctly, that player will be awarded
  155.  
  156. the chosen money amount.  If the
  157.  
  158. question is answered incorrectly, then
  159.  
  160. the other player will have a chance to
  161.  
  162. answer the question.  If neither
  163.  
  164. player correctly answers the question,
  165.  
  166. then play returns to the main game
  167.  
  168. board.
  169.  
  170.   It is important to note that every
  171.  
  172. time you attempt to answer a question
  173.  
  174. and are incorrect, the money amount is
  175.  
  176. deducted from your account.  This
  177.  
  178. keeps the game interesting.  In fact,
  179.  
  180. you can wind up with a negative score.
  181.  
  182.   When all questions have been chosen,
  183.  
  184. if either player has a positive amount
  185.  
  186. of money, a new category will be
  187.  
  188. chosen.  If a player has any money, he
  189.  
  190. can place a wager on one final
  191.  
  192. question.  If both players have some
  193.  
  194. money, then both players will attempt
  195.  
  196. to answer the same question.  As
  197.  
  198. before, if you answer the question
  199.  
  200. correctly, you are awarded the amount
  201.  
  202. you wagered.  If your answer is
  203.  
  204. incorrect, you lose the amount you
  205.  
  206. wagered.
  207.  
  208.   After the final scoring, the
  209.  
  210. computer will decide the winner.  This
  211.  
  212. is, of course, based upon which player
  213.  
  214. has the most money.  At this point,
  215.  
  216. you will be asked if you want to test
  217.  
  218. your trivia knowledge again with
  219.  
  220. CATAGORY SHOWDOWN.
